Documents for the DOATAP application: checklist, apostille and translation
This guide summarises what the DOATAP FAQ says about documents, apostille and translation. Rules and forms change, so always check the current list on the eDoatap platform. This is not legal advice, and Iatros is not affiliated with DOATAP or any ministry.
Which documents does DOATAP ask for?
The exact list is shown under "Documents" on the eDoatap platform and depends on your case, so read it there before you start. The FAQ names the degree certificate and the transcript of record, both with an apostille, and a Certificate of Place of Study in some cases, for example franchise programmes run with private Greek entities. We could not retrieve the full official checklist PDF, so confirm every item on eDoatap.
Do I need an apostille, and what about Ukraine?
Yes, DOATAP states that the degree certificate and transcript need an apostille (Hague stamp), issued by the authority of the country that issued the document. Ukraine is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention to our knowledge, so Ukrainian documents are normally apostilled in Ukraine; we did not re-verify this against the HCCH status table, so check it and the current issuing authority for your document.
Do my documents need a Greek translation?
Documents not in Greek, English or French need an official translation. The FAQ mentions translations of the degree title, the transcript and, where needed, the Certificate of Place of Study, with the original apostilled.
Who may make the translation?
According to the DOATAP FAQ: translators on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs register of certified translators, Hellenic consular authorities abroad, graduates of the Ionian University Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting, or a lawyer in Greece who certifies the translation. Ask DOATAP or check eDoatap if your translator is not on this list.
How and where do I apply?
Only online, through the eDoatap platform (e-doatap.doatap.gr). DOATAP states that applications sent by post, e-mail or any other way are not accepted.
What are the fees and deadlines?
We could not confirm the initial application fee; see the DOATAP Fees page (doatap.gr/Information/Fees). The FAQ lists EUR 20.48 for copies of file documents and for an Institution Recognition certificate. For complete applications submitted since November 2022 the expected processing time is 1 to 2 months. We found no deadline for submitting an initial application. A reevaluation must be requested within 60 days of a negative decision.
Does a medical degree need exams?
DOATAP states that EU degrees awarded after the country joined the EU generally need no DOATAP exams, and you contact the Ministry of Health and the medical association. Non-EU degrees, or older EU degrees, require exams in courses DOATAP specifies case by case before a licence can be pursued.
What are the common mistakes?
Sending documents by e-mail or post instead of eDoatap, translating a document that has no apostille, using a translator outside the accepted list, and working from an old checklist. Start from the current eDoatap list and keep scans of the apostilled originals and translations together.
